Web Designer

Position:
Web Designer
Location:
United kingdom
Type:
Full-Time

We are looking for a Web Designer who can hold a whole site in their head: the type scale, the grid, the eleven components that make up forty pages, and the three screens that actually carry the revenue.

You will design in the browser as often as in the canvas, and you will see your work through the build rather than handing it over at the halfway point.

Key responsibilities

  • Design marketing sites end to end, from sitemap and wireframe to the last responsive state.
  • Build the type scale, spacing system and component set that the rest of the site is assembled from.
  • Design every breakpoint properly rather than letting the desktop layout fall over.
  • Work with the content designer on hierarchy, because a page is mostly words.
  • Review the build against the design and be specific about what is wrong.

Required

  • Three or more years designing sites, with a portfolio of live URLs rather than mock-ups.
  • Genuine typographic skill — scale, measure, rhythm and restraint.
  • Enough HTML and CSS to know what you are asking for.
  • Experience designing systems rather than pages.

Life at Obliq Studio

Life at Obliq Studio is built around a culture of creativity, clarity and craftsmanship. We operate with a clear, structured workflow that removes chaos and gives you the space to produce your best work. You will collaborate with designers, engineers, strategists and writers who treat every project as a story that needs emotion, intention and technical precision in equal measure.

We value trust over micromanagement. The studio is remote-friendly, the calendar is deliberately thin, and the work spans SaaS, ecommerce, hospitality, arts and culture — so no two quarters look the same. Your ideas are welcome, your craft decisions are respected, and nobody is asked to defend a good decision twice.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with a published band and a yearly review.
  • Remote-friendly hours, with two overlapping days a week for reviews.
  • A budget for tools, conferences and whatever you are teaching yourself this year.
  • Work on visually rich international projects across several industries.
  • Structured handovers, written briefs and no unnecessary meetings.
  • Regular craft reviews that are about the work rather than the person.

How to apply

Send a portfolio, a short note about a project you would do differently now, and anything you have made that nobody asked you to make. We read everything, we reply to everyone, and the process is three conversations and one paid exercise.
